“Great campground! They have the cleanest campground toilets I have ever seen. The lots are spacious and have a good amount of space between them. No electrical hookups or water at each lot but there is a hand pump water well in the center of the campground. The area is beautiful, especially if you are looking for Aspen trees. Tanglewood Trails a few miles down the road was a fantastic hiking area. The camp host was very helpful and sells bundles of firewood if you need it. I would definitely camp here again. ”

“Good camping close to a city but far enough away to feel the total camping experience. My only issue is the spaces can be challenging to park bigger rigs. Nice to have electricity.”

“Always have a great ride. It has ample space to park your horse trailer, and the trails are somewhat shaded and most are marked well. Camping with your horses is free, just need to pull a permit. Day riders don't need a permit.”

“Love this place! Have taken classes on wild edible plants, tracking, fishing, and had a blast at mountain craft festival. All great people that really know their stuff. I learn a ton every time, always enjoy hanging out at the property, and appreciate that they skip some of the BS that other schools try to use to lend credibility (like quoting Tom brown Jr books or military survival guides at you) By far the best school of its kind in the area, enough so that I keep making the 3 hour trip from Pittsburgh. Hope to take more classes here this year!”

“We loved it! It was so peaceful.. all the workers are very friendly, the pool and lazy river were clean, sites are well kept and spacious, the gift shop had a lot of cute stuff and just about everything you could need. This was our first time staying on the west end and we did not regret it! The margaritas you can get st the office/gift shop were delicious. This place is great for literally all ages. We will be back!”

“Alder Camp is less than two miles from the coast. You need a reservation and spots are first come first served. Many use Alder as an final stop on the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, but you can also park in a lot near the coast and hike/bike in from Hwy 1. (You might have to open and close the gate at Hwy 1 to access the parking lot.) Several of the spots are very close together and not very private. Fires are not allowed. There is no drinking water available. There are trash cans and a pit toilet. There are no tables. Bear boxes are available. See my panorama accompanying this Google Maps listing to get a feel. The creek runs along the campground and is easily accessible. There’s a clearing between several sites where stargazing is very possible on clear nights. Sites close to the pit toilet might have to deal with that smell. At least during dry weather, the ground is very dusty. In some places it’s so deep that it’s almost like you’re at the beach. This was perhaps the most significant downside to this campground. Note that Twin Redwoods campground is extremely close to Alder. Just a few minutes walk. Before leaving Alder I looked at Twin Redwoods and it seemed superior in terms of campsite spacing and privacy.”
