Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum

Address: 600 I-30 Frontage Rd #4309, Greenville, TX 75401, USA

Museum

“This is a gem of a museum. It's located on a nice property off the I-30 frontage road in Greenville TX. It's not a huge museum but the space is utilized very well so there is a lot in there. It contains a comprehensive Greenville history that includes everyone from the indigenous people to important citizens from all cultural groups. There is a comprehensive display representing the cotton industry. There are dioramas illustrating "Mainstreet" and war. These are very well done. There is a section dedicated to Audie, WWII, military history in general and local veterans. You can watch a short film about Audie. Outside are some buildings, two of which are originals and one replica. When staffed, you can go inside. At the entrance is a beautiful sculpture of Audie and a memorial to Veterans. There is a small giftshop with reasonable priced items and a nice selection of books, mostly history. You can purchase Audi's autobiography, To He'll and Back which I'm enjoying. (no Kindle version so buy it here instead of Amazon). I bought a sweet doll made from a quilt for just $10. Entry is $6 but separate pricing for Veterans (not sure what). Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. Plenty of places to sit and contemplate both inside and out. SHOUT OUT FOR HELP: There are two miniatures in the cotton exhibit that need work from someone with knowledge of miniature gears and pulleys. If you can help, please contact the museum. This is a great place to take school age children though the diorama with shooting may not be appropriate for all. The large map in the military exhibit is particularly educational as it provides a summation of the major WWII battles and a visual of the allegiances of the countries.”

“I went there for a Mock Trial event and found the place very interesting. There is a whole exhibit on 100 years of children's books. Upstairs was a jury room, and the "jurors" in the mack trial actually went up there to deliberate. The building has a rich history and I would recommend that you check it out if you have time.”

Space Farms: Zoo & Museum

Address: 218 County Road 519, Sussex, NJ 07461, USA

Zoo Museum

“Not like other zoos, this one is much more open, so small kids can also enjoy the animals from such a nice distance. Till now, I didn't see any tiger or lion from such an open area. There are picnic areas inside so anyone can bring their own food and enjoy it. At the entrance, there is a small cafeteria where you can find pizza and some other foods. Museums are also good.”

Yager Museum

“First, it's FREE to visit and park (spots right next to the door). So definitely handicap accessible! No stairs! Bathrooms are found right inside the main entrance. Staff and curator were super friendly and helpful. Check on hours before visiting due to they change hours during different seasons. The exhibits were very well done. You probably won't spend all day here since it's not a giant museum within the college. It was definitely worth a visit though! The older kids enjoyed it a bit more than the little one due to the subjects of the exhibits. Though everyone enjoys looking at interesting items and pictures no matter the age!”

Fox Island Historical Society

Address: 1017 9th Avenue Court Fi, Fox Island, WA 98333, USA

Museum

“Wonderful museum. Full of books and artifacts. The people there will gladly give a tour and guide you around any specific topics you may be interested in. If you enter the women's bathroom, you will find a suprise guest in the bath tub. XD Picked up several books (and a few comics) and checked out the "Clay Babies" display. These rare calcite concretions can only be found at the top of the island around the spit. It is illegal to take them from the spit or the private beaches without permission. Please respect a Pack it In - Pack it Out Policy and leave the area the way you found it. They are also trying to seed the beach with oysters and clams, please do not disturb these creatures and do not disturb the kelp lying around. The crabs and other creatures use it for protection. The cabin was locked, but we had a nice look from the outside. Great location for quick stop with great hosts. Will recommend to others.”

My favorite was the medical equipment they used to use for amputation, etc. please research their business hours before heading over. They’re closed on Sundays so we had to come back on a Saturday but totally worth it. I highly recommend it!!!”

Friendship of Salem

Address: Salem, MA 01970, USA

“It was neat to stop by and see a replica of a cargo ship that was built in Salem. It is under construction now. There is a park ranger that lets a certain number of people on the ship at a time. Pretty everything inside was under construction but it was still fun to go in and take a walk around.”

Gaskill Brothers Stone Store Museum

Address: 31130 CA-94, Campo, CA 91906, USA

Museum

“The Gaskill Brothers Stone Store Museum in Campo, CA, is a unique and interesting museum that offers visitors a glimpse into the history of the area. The museum is housed in a historic building that was once a general store and post office, and it has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Inside, visitors can explore a wide range of exhibits that showcase the history of the area and the role that the Gaskill Brothers played in the development of Campo. One of the highlights of the museum is the extensive collection of artifacts and memorabilia from the 19th and 20th centuries. It was fascinating to learn about the lives of the pioneers who first settled in the area and the challenges they faced. In addition to the historic exhibits, there are also displays about the natural history of the area, including the local flora and fauna. The museum has done an excellent job of presenting the information in an engaging and interactive way, making it accessible and interesting for visitors of all ages. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Gaskill Brothers Stone Store Museum in Campo, CA. It is a must-see attraction for history buffs, and even those who aren't typically interested in history will find something to enjoy here. The museum is well worth the visit, and I look forward to visiting again in the future. Enjoy!”

Johnson County Museum

Address: 289 Clay St, Tecumseh, NE 68450, USA

Museum

“Wow! I was amazed by the detail, flow, organization, and creativity the Johnson County Museum had to offer. I grew up in Tecumseh and thought I knew a lot about my hometown and surrounding areas, but I was wrong! The museum was carefully designed with some of the most unique artifacts and descriptions. I know a lot of the credit for the formation of the miniature exhibits can be credited to Sarah Williamson, but the entire Johnson county historical society and its members should be proud of their fine establishment. If you have any ties to Johnson county, you must visit! I will say the museum is closed from the months of December to April, but there was a note on the door to call to coordinate a time to view the museum. I called and Gina Doty was happy to come down and open the museum for us—within minutes of calling her! Talk about amazing service to compliment a fabulous business! I will go again, as they are always adding things! Thank you for adding such great value to my hometown!”

Homestead Museum Gallery

Address: City of Industry, CA 91745, USA

Museum

“This is a small memorial hall consisting of two buildings + 1 cemetery. However, it is very worthwhile to come. The main reason is that the wonderful explanation of the guide makes you feel that you are in the right place. Opening starts at 12pm and ends at 4pm. Only open Friday-Sunday every week. Relatively niche. The first building I visited was the Workman house, led by the guide Judy. She was careful, full of enthusiasm, always smiling, and told me everything she knew, and let me have a good understanding of this building built in 1841. The exploration of historic buildings was responded to. She is really great, very professional and you can feel her genuine love for the building. Let me admire very much, this is definitely an excellent explainer. Every story in the house, she will tell the visitors one by one, very seriously. The next hour, I visited La Casa Nuevo, a building next to it. It is definitely an old building full of Spanish style. The specific year of construction should be around 1860. The house, its elegance and exquisite layout, let us see the architectural beauty of two centuries ago. Under Judy's delicate explanation, we all fully understood the story that happened at that time, and it was a very good visit. It's worth a visit.”

“Linda and I share a mutual love of art and we often find ourselves talking about it at length. I love touring museums with Linda because the conversation never stops. Our time in the museum together gives each of us a chance to share the things we like (or don’t) and in the always lively process increase each other’s art awareness. The last show I took in with Linda was the Legion of Honor’s British Works on Paper 1760-1900 where we saw some of the very landscapes I remembered from my childhood years in England. I love that Linda is organized and sensitive to people’s viewing wishes and that she can take them with brio right to the art that will stir them.”

Meredith Havens Fire Museum

Address: 244 Perry St, Trenton, NJ 08618, USA

Museum

“We had a great time with the Trenton Fire Department on Perry Street this past Friday, July 7th, 2023. Once the firefighters discovered that pizza was Hannah's favorite food, they invited our family to sample homemade pizzas made from scratch! While there, we also had a chance to tour the tremendous Meredith Havens Fire Museum and the fire trucks on sight. Our son pitched in, as always, to help out in the kitchen, and it was great to laugh and joke with the Chief, Captain, and other firefighters amid their camaraderie. We highly recommend that if you are in the Trenton area, to stop there one day to greet and wish them well and to visit the firefighter museum, which has memorabilia back over 200 years! They are always open, 24 hours each day!”

Beauvais-Amoureux House

Address: 327 St Marys Rd, Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670, USA

Museum

“The history down in Ste Gen is so amazing. Allegedly going back to 1735. Hard to find that kind of history this side of the Mississippi. This house is actually one of the few vertical log style houses left in the US. I believe there are only 5 and 3 are in the Ste Gen area. The tour is very quaint and community driven, which is awesome to see the local community take such pride in their history. The house itself is very nicely kept and has multiple displays. The best one being a scale model of Ste Gen during the post colonial era. The tour does cost a few bucks, but if you go to the local tourism office in downtown Ste Gen you can get a passport for $15 a person and see six different sites around town. It's good for the calendar year and will save you a little cash if you visit most the places.”

California Museum of Fine Art

Address: 1010 S Cabrillo Ave, San Pedro, CA 90731, USA

“My friends and I got tickets for the Yayoi Kusama exhibit when it was here. We were in the group that did not get tickets for the first batch due to technical difficulties, but we managed to snag tickets for a late night viewing at 8pm. California Museum of Fine Art opened extended their hours after the usual business hours to accommodate the mass appeal of the tour.”

Thursby House
