“So I decided to me and her over to Bonhome today. Stopped at the museum wonderful people, great museum, full of local history, which I absolutely love. It’s so nice to see people, realizing that we have to save and preserve our history for our future generations so they can learn about where they come from and who they are . Had an absolutely lovely informal history lesson 😊 keep up the wonderful work!”

“This place is super cool! Experience a real life circus under a real big top tent. That's not something you can really find these days. I love that the cost of the show was included with your ticket. Learn about the history of the circus and then get to see it come to life. Definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area!”

“Went there to look up an old property. They were unable to find the information I was looking for, but everyone was so nice and bent over backwards to help and gave me several other local resources to help in my search. If I ever need more info I will absolutely return.”

“Our guide gave us a very informative tour on this historically significant home. There's only three rooms to view at the moment and not much to view in them but it's still a really neat little stop in and admission is free. You can find out what time the tours take place at the welcome center right across the street.”

“This is the best place to go for Enjoyable Education, second only to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. It is disappointing that the Management succumbed to irrational & unrealistic pressure from those that would ignore the significance of Historical masterpieces, and felt compelled to remove Teddy Roosevelt's Statue without considering the overall Membership attitude toward that situation. I was a BIG Contributing Member, but canceled it after they did that. Regardless of the Administration's shortcomings, the Museum and the helpful, pleasant and professional Boots-on-the-Ground Staff are wonderful! Check out the new Mignone Hall of Gems and Minerals!”

“Nice place to visit a lot of history that you can't erase. Even things about the Holocaust victims rescued from trains that the Germans were trying to send to the concentration camps that had the gas chamber's .an eleven year old girl survived and kept in touch with some American officials she lived to be in her nineties.”

“Very unusual and fun experience. About an hour’s drive from San Diego. Trains inside and outside, some quite rare. Some are also in a state of neglect. Interesting nevertheless. There is a relatively inexpensive train ride that rides along the countryside to about a couple of miles from the border, and then back. Total45 mins. And yes you can see the wall quite clearly. I recommend sitting in the rear car since that way you can actually see out the back door. There is a chance to ride in the locomotive with the engineer as well. Nothing like this for a photo op for the train/history and photography buff! Some spectacular views of the “Wild West”,especially if you go after the rain, when it’s green. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and there on a volunteer basis.”

“This is a Hidden Gem. I have lived here for 55 years and did not know about it. It gives a great historical perspective of life in North Carolina from 1800 to the present time. It's free but they ask for a donation which after seeing how well maintained it is and the knowledge of the tour guide, you have no problem donating. This is one of the best non-profit organizations I have seen relating to the history of North Carolina. It would be great for kids to give them an understanding of the history of this area of North Carolina.”

“Very nice place to go and has interactive activities for children. I thought it was a very cute place to go especially for relaxing. It was free for us to go in since the Virginia Beach City pays for this place to stay open and up. It’s a small but good Museum for your day on vacation when you want to relax and just enjoy art and what it offers to your mind. It had different types of art too, painting, prints, sculpture, and videos! All loved and appreciated. They also have a cute gift shop full of books and stickers! Very nice place and would come back again one day in the future.”

“Cool cars! Not much of a “museum” necessarily but fun to check out regardless. Wish they had someone more available to answer questions or guide through, as there’s not much signage, but they were happy to explain when you went over and asked. Hard to find - go down the driveway to the back buildings.”

“My husband and I love going on drives and one Sunday in early Fall we found ourselves exploring the Mount Vernon area, which we found to be a very quaint little town with picturesque cabins, farms, and countryside views. I don't have the pictures we took of BitterSweet Cabin Museum on hand, but I can tell you that it looks absolutely heavenly in the Fall. You feel like you are stepping into a time capsule. A very peaceful place to visit. I hope that you are still open next time we come through. I would love to bring my grandchildren to visit. I know they would be absolutely captivated. Thank you so much for everything!”
