David McDonnell Bmus - Guitar Lessons

  David McDonnell has been teaching my son electric guitar for the past 4 years the 'Rock School' syllabus which covers a number of genres for example, jazz, funk, blues, country, rock and metal. The Rock School syllabus also entails many technical exercises such as scales, chords, ear training and music theory; David has helped my son with these exercises brilliantly. My son is currently preparing for his Grade 8 exam and has achieved a 'Merit' qualification in all his previous exams (from Grade 1 to 7). He has also worked on many popular songs and solos with David such as 'Sweet Child of Mine' and Hotel California.
  My son began his lessons within school but he switched to home lessons due to the flexibility of extending the duration of the lesson from 20 minutes to 1 hour a week, which has been very beneficial as lessons have covered more aspects of the syllabus, resulting in him achieving and learning more.
  I would definitely recommend David as he is such a nice guy, an excellent guitar teacher and accommodating.

  I received tuition from David a few years ago, and he is an terrific teacher, he is patient, kind and has a very deep knowledge of music theory and is generally a nice person.
  
  I had gone from an absolute beginner who didn't even know what a chord was to a grade one merit in just under a year and have already applied for grade 2. David teaches fundamental skills and techniques like scales, barre chords, bends, improvisation and rhythm playing, palm muting etc, which really help you as an overall guitarist. David tailors the lessons and resources to each student specifically down to what kind of music they are into and also teaches the guitar grade exams.
  
  David selects popular tunes that are relevant to the grade that you are studying to help with techniques as well as any song that you would like to learn. He teaches at your house which is very beneficial as it relieves nerves and playing in a familiar environment does wonders for your playing. Overall I have learned a huge amount from my lessons with David with a good mixture of theory and actual playing and I couldn't recommend him enough to anyone that is considering playing or are currently playing the guitar.
  
  He covers all the fundamentals of music theory, and since my lessons with him have self taught myself bass guitar and piano and joined a choir. All of which have been built on the foundations of my lessons with him.

  I've been tutored by David for the past couple of months and have learned a terrific amount. He is extremely professional in his approach to teaching, is patient and tailors each lesson to the student’s needs. He's a thoroughly nice guy and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

  Dave started teaching my daughter at school 6 years ago and now teaches all three of my children classical guitar. They all started as complete beginners at the age of 7, but have progressed through their music medals and Trinity grades, all with excellent results. Dave makes the lessons enjoyable and has been so supportive, particularly when the nerves have set in before a performance or grade exam. He will always go out of his way to ensure that they feel as prepared as possible, even answering last minute questions by text! He also allows his pupils to choose the music they would like to play, often adapting it to their individual ability. Overall Dave is a kind and patient guitar teacher and my children wouldn’t have anyone else!

  Dave was an amazing guitar teacher for both my children taking them at an early age from complete beginners to all the way up to taking their grades. He helped us with advice on equipment, making minor repairs and even supplying an instrument. His personable approach and tailoring for our specific needs was so caring. He arranged songs for us to play as a family and sourced scores for songs that we liked. He was an inspiration.
