Surrey Leather Repair Alterations have provided generous support to Southwark Sea Cadets by carrying out tailoring repairs to uniform items.

The Sea Cadet Corps is a national youth organisation for young people between the age of 10 and 18 which aims to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy.

Each individual Sea Cadet Unit is an independent charity, which must be fully self-sufficient in terms of funding their wide range of activities, both waterborne and shore based, which includes maintaining the Unit HQ, minibus and boats in tip-top condition. Run by unpaid volunteers in their spare time it can be a constant challenge to provide a safe Unit HQ, minibus, boats and other state-of-the-art equipment that young people in the 21st century tend to take for granted.

With this mind, Surrey Leather Repair Alterations was pleased to arrange repairs to foul weather jackets, an essential part of Royal Navy uniforms worn by Sea Cadets at their ‘stone frigate’ unit headquarters in South East London. Unit Management Team Chair Mrs Sue Stevens commented ‘Keeping cadet uniforms in tip-top condition is essential as cadets are often in the public eye and very often represent the Royal Navy. I have a world war flying jacket that was very big and puffy, took it here and had it tailored. Very good work, sleeves are nice and snug, chest was taken in, really impressive work, highly recommend this place.
