Northlight Gallery was founded on the Tempe campus by Professor Jack Stuler and MFA photo students in 1972 at a time when the medium was struggling to be recognized locally as a fine art. Now over 4 decades later, photography and related digital technologies dominate contemporary art as well as our daily lives.
Professor David Taylor from the University of Arizona selected the works for The Agency of Ideas exhibition at Northlight Gallery, and met with students to review their portfolios. Taylor will give a lecture on campus, funded by the club's annual silent auction held downtown as part of the First Fridays Phoenix ART Walk in April.
Grant Street Studios epitomizes the idea of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Renovating a former cotton factory in downtown Phoenix, ASU School of Art has created a community for its graduate studio artists, galleries for them to showcase work among Phoenix artists, and workspaces for them to experiment and flourish.
Take/Aim is an exhibition curated by ASU alum William LeGoullon in community collaboration between Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art (phICA) and the Northlight Gallery at Arizona State University.
