(April 10, 2019, 7:53 pm)I've not stayed in many hostels but I can say that this will be the standard against which my future hostel experiences will be measured. Every aspect seems designed to encourage positive interaction both with the city of Phoenix and fellow travelers. Though my stay was only for one night as I passed through, I hope one day to return and explore all The Metcalf House has to offer.

(March 30, 2019, 7:38 am)Such a lovely hostel, comfortable dorms, huge kitchen space & great bathrooms. All beautifully designed too. We’re most pleased with the location, as it’s so close to the night market & all the trendy spots in Hualien. Would 100% stay again!

(December 18, 2018, 9:20 am)I have stayed at the Phoenix Hostel over the last two days and the experience has been wonderful. Keith and Deb are the best, not only are they excellent hosts and make their guests feel comfortable they embody the culture of the traveler. Keith has wonderful stories and is really helpful to point out the sites depending on the person's interest. It has been one of the best hotel/overnight experiences I have had. I recommend them absolutely.
