The kids had a great time, and we all could have spent the whole day here! But I was surprised at some of the reviews I've just read... and, I don't think that many people do their homework and read up on this place before they get here. I think that they expect it to be like the Phoenix Science Center or the Children's Museum. There is nothing wrong with those places (we have memberships), but they are geared to the entertainment and engaging of younger, elementary school-aged children. The Challenger Space Center is more of an educational experience for older kids and adults. It also appeals more those who already have an appreciation and understanding of the Space Program and its' history. We took the tour and went to the Light Show in a group with about 10 adults and 15 kids... But like I mentioned, everyone (including the kids) already seemed to have a lot of knowledge and interest -- There were many chances for questions and answers and most of the kids were very involved and had some real good questions! All in all, we enjoyed ourselves there, and we will be returning.
It's too bad it closed. Was an cool place to go. My guess is that the location was too far from 'popular' locations in the valley...
We were at the Challenger Space Center for their STEAM Fashion Show Fundraiser on 11/12, and we said this would be a great place to visit with our grandchildren. Lots of pictures, art, info on space missions and communications. Jordan Goddard put on a demonstration using liquid nitrogen that was really cool! The fashion show was great!
My family and I visited last weekend before we headed home to San Diego. We were SO glad to have stopped. We received a personal tour fro ma gentlemen named Bob who was so knowledgeable and patient with my two sons....especially my 12 year old who asked question after question. We weren't able to go on the simulators as it wasn't available that day (check schedule in advance for this) but we will most certainly be back.
Our family couldn't have been more pleased. We left with smiles on our faces and a better understanding of the space shuttles that flew and NASA. We will certainly be back!
