  Quiet cemetery. Nice views. Good for wildlife sightings. Close by is a hike up double Butte hill.

  Many of my ancestors are interred in this pioneer cemetery. On the north side of the desert section is a large family plot with a tall headstone engraved with the HENDRIX. Several family members' remains are there. West of that section, on the small road that has the caretaker building at the end, is the AUSTIN family plot. My grandmother (Georgia Alfretta Hendrix-Austin) and grandfather, Linzy Carson Austin have their headstones there, as do several of their children and relatives and my parents, VirginiaLee Austin Hinton and Jay Baker Hinton, D.D.S. The Hendrixes were my maternal great grandparents. My grandparents and great grandparents were Tempe Pioneers. Their residences were on Normal Avenue. My mother, V.Lee Austin Hinton, was born and raised in Tempe and was educated there from the Payne School all the way through Tempe State Teachers' College (now Arizona State University). She was born February 12, 1916 and passed on March 22, 2013. My grandfather, L. C. Austin was, among other things, the groundskeeper at ASU for many of his latter years. Many of the trees he planted around Old Main are still growing there. (My father met my mother at ASU. He was born in Ft. Thomas, Arizona. His parents, also, were Arizona Pioneers.) I was born in Phoenix in 1940. I am very honored to be part of this Long-time and native-Arizona family. This little cemetery is very dear to me and will remain so for my children and grandchildren.
