This is a great place to visit if you want to learn about the natural history of the area surrounding Los Vaqueros reservoir. The staff is super-helpful with young kids and they have updated information about the hiking trails that start from the north end of the lake. Don't head out on the trail without getting the latest info or you may find your destination is off-limits during seasonal closures for mating season.

A small museum dedicated to the history and ecology of the East Bay area. Stop in for advice about trails, local plants and animals. Word to the wise - from this end of the Los Vaqueros Watershed, the hiking is an uphill trek because you start at the bottom of the canyon with no where to go but up. It's a great place to start your hike but only if you are willing to do the hard work up front.

This is a must see if you're anywhere near the Los Vaqueros Reservoir. Tons of information all contained in one place. From the American Indian influences, to all the native animals that make the surroundings home. The interactive displays were outstanding, they really made learning fun. Shaded picnic tables provide a relaxing space for a bite to eat.

This place has a touch screen interactive learning display of animals and birds in the area, for young children. Nice shaded picnic tables. Clean bathrooms inside. But long climb on a paved road to the top of the dam before you can see the reservoir.
