I'd been playing guitar for 8 years before I met Rick, including on and off in a couple jam bands. Since I'd taken piano lessons for 13 years--classical, jazz, blues, the works--before taking up guitar, I thought that I could pick up this guitar thing on my own with the help of the internet.

But, I've learned twice as much in less than a year with Rick, than in the previous 8 years teaching myself. Rick's great at putting theory in context and demystifying what great guitarists are doing and why they're doing it. He introduces me to new styles that are fun to learn and fun to play--songs I never would have picked up on my own--and then shows how and where they've influenced music that I do know.

What I like most is that lessons with Rick are journeys with endings I can never predict. But I always learn something I'll use again and have a lot of fun in the process.

Rick has been teaching my teenager for about 8 months now. We are thrilled! His ability to explain chords, music, sound, musical mood, etc. is genious. Rick keeps my kid interested because she gets to choose the songs she wants to learn and he adapts them to make them "learnable" right out of the gate. Rick uses this platform to teach musical theory, chord relationships, playing technique, timing, etc. Also, the hour-long lesson is so much better than the standard 30 min other teachers give. That extra time is crucial to really learning and improving. His price is great. Per minute, he is less expensive than most teachers out there and you get so much more with Rick than other more "generic" teachers. In summary, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND RICK LILLEY.

I have been studying with Rick for a few years. He's really patient and SUPER knowledgable. He's patient and has great energy. I'm in my 40's, so learning the guitar is no easy feat for me. However, I enjoy every one of my lessons with Rick.

I studies under two other guitar teachers before I met Rick and I can tell you it was a strugle with them. Then one of my friends recommended Journeyman Guitar and things stared to happen with my ability on the guitar. When Rick teaches me, I get it.
