This is the upper end of the path from Moraga Way to the Lafayette Reservoir Rim Trail (aka "Jeep Trail"). The entrance of path is at 601 Moraga Way at intersection of Via Grenada, where there is plenty of street parking.
The path is a nice summer/fall entrance to the Rim, with a cool shaded forest. However it is quite muddy in winter/spring so not is as suitable during that season.
The path is 0.63 miles long and only steep at the end. There are some trail steps on steep portion, but the path is largely narrow and unpaved. The path is not suitable for bicycles (which are prohibited on this connecting path).
The Rim Trail is a fire road and quite wide, with beautiful panoramic views of the reservoir bowl and surrounding landscape. It begins and ends near the dam, with a couple of side entrances like this one around the edges. As the Rim Trail is maintained it is suitable to walk year round.
The park is only open during daylight hours.
