Over 6,000 acres of meandering trails through woodland, hillside and meadows. Parking is ample, rest rooms and picnic tables are available. Biking, horseback riding, hiking, walking the dog, picnicking, playing in the creek, enjoying the views and appreciating nature easily accessible from the freeway. Go at your own pace-fast and strenuous or laid back and relaxed- stay for an hour or spend the day.
Beautiful this time of year. It was a nice sunny day so we went out for a picnic. It was very nice.
Large open space with lots of trails. Mostly steep grassy hills but some wooded areas too. I subtract a star for the preponderance of cattle which decorate some of the trails with their pies and deep hoofprints. The cattle owners have the nerve to put up signs extolling the benefits of the cattle on the landscape. Beware of the rain as some trails become very muddy in the winter.
Nice views of Concord to Walnut Creek and Mount Diablo. Lots of trail options and we saw some birds of prey and a coyote on our hike. Bring a cell phone or paper map as there are so many choices for trails you could end up on a much longer excursion than you might have originally planned. Bring water and shade hat in the spring and summer and dogs are okay on leash. Lots of parking and fees are collected so be prepared to pay.

Briones Regional Park is a good East Bay highing destination. There's parking at Springhill Road on the north side of the park. Last time I came here, we took the Lafayette, Buckeye Ranch, Sunrise and Briones Crest trails, stringing them all together to make a loop.
