Dr. Horowitz is not like other psychiatrists. Depending on your personal expectations as to how psychiatry should be conducted he may or may not be the kind of psychiatrist you're looking for. However, I've never had a psychiatrist go to such lengths to help me through the most difficult times of my life. Like other commentors have mentioned Dr. Horowitz does have some faults - his punctuality can be poor and his boundaries are not as tight as other practicing physicians, though it's definitely worth mentioning that his craft allows him to make progress with certain patients/situations when many other approaches have failed. His comprehension of mental illness is phenomenal and he actually cares whether his patients improve or not. If you just need a doctor to prescribe medication in a timely fashion, you might be better off seeing someone else. If you're not a fan of doctors who ask the same questions at every appointment, or who who don't take an interest how your conditions are affecting your life, then Dr. Horowitz will not disappoint you.
I would agree with the one positive review here. He is a brilliant man, and all such folks have their (sometimes severe) faults, but never have I seen a Doctor in any field that even approaches his level of care or compassion. If he makes you wait, get over it. He will probably fix you if you can be patient. And the guy who said that he masquerades his boundaries for real caring, what a complete load of crap. You're so together, why are you seeing a Psychiatrist?
These petty stabs at the foibles of this man disgust me. One word for you: LEAVE. I have seen him for eleven years and he is keeping me stable. Enough said, you cretins.
