I think that Competitive Air, a family owned Father (Frank) and Son (Chris) business is great. For years I have been trying to solve the problem of why part of my Huntington Beach home was cold while the top floor was hot. Over the years, I was given the same story by multiple heating companies: that I needed a second heater because mine was just not big enough. They all wanted to install a whole other new furnace with huge expense – gas line, hole in roof, ducting, etc. It never made sense to me as I had to open the windows on the top floor in the winter because it was so hot while I froze below and had to use a portable heater. Finally I was recommended Competitive Air by a contractor I used to remodel my kitchen. On the first visit, Frank put his hand on one of the walls with the heater on and said “something is wrong” and we need to find out now as it is a fire hazard. Cutting a hole in the drywall revealed that the main furnace manifold was separated – which they fixed without charge and literally may have prevented my home from catching on fire. Next, after some thought and research Chris and his dad figured out that a simple in-line fan that was temperature controlled to automatically go on whenever the heat was on would simply fix the problem and save me thousands. Great idea and worked like a charm especially when they adjusted the vent dampers throughout the house. I am greatly indebted to them and highly recommend them without reservation and have already passed on their name.
