Maison Matho is the perfect spot for a quick weekend brunch. It's in a rather unassuming location with just a couple small cafe tables You even order from a tiny counter but the food is well beyond the usual street corner window.
All the ingredients are fresh, the eggs are cooked to perfection, the bread has just the right texture, croissants are layered and flakey and even the butter is shipped in from a European vendor.
Definitely worth a visit for exquisite but casual French/Euro inspired cuisine. Prices are very reasonable.
Parking is a bit tricky but available on side streets. Be ready for a bit of a line/wait but absolutely worth it.
Fantastic little French eatery focusing mostly on sandwiches, pastries and coffee.
All bread is made in house so the sandwiches have fresh sourdough baguettes as their base and the pastries have that delicious buttery crisp texture croissants should have.
The classic Mathos Jambon Beurre sandwich is my favorite with a nice helping of butter and juicy ham and thin sliced gherkin pickle slivers lightly seasoned.
The coffee (which is always my focus) is delicious and flavorful. Their signature Pink Praline Latte is sweet but you can taste the espresso throughout.
I also ordered a normal oat milk latte with their homemade praline syrup and it was *chef’s kiss* so good that I think I’ll keep ordering it that way.
My only criticism is it’s location. It’s mainly meant for pick ups as there are only a few seats and it’s just on the sidewalk. Which is a very busy and hectic street. Not at all chill. Technically I like their location because it’s close to me but the retail front is just a small kitchen space.
Regardless of that I highly recommend this place when looking for coffee and a pastry (their almond croissant is a new favorite) or a nice solid sandwich!
Another little gem in a very busy Hollywood-Mel”sore”Ave. I ordered the Melrose Fog which is a delicate earl grey with vanilla. A friend came into town and we drank our teas on the benches out in front and enjoyed the rollicking cars pass by.
Spectacular food. Bravo. Everything was delicious, from coffee to sandwiches to pastries. The indoor dining doesn’t exist and the outdoor dining is on a very busy street. I caught several drivers on Melrose checking out my meal- one even gave me a thumbs up. I was happy to be a living advertisement for this place while eating there - they deserved it - but if you’re shy- I would recommend getting the food to go.
The best ingredients picked assembled by the best chef! Hot summer day you deserve iced Melrose Fog! Two to three people should get the big brunch box, perfect amount and best combo of salty and sweet! There are several cute benches outside where you can enjoy the fresh taste 😋🙌🙌🙌
