Nestled in the hills of Santa Monica off the Pacific Coast Highway Getty Villa is a modern reconstruction of a villa in Herculaneum covered by Vesuvius not too far from Pompeii.

Museum is free but must use internet to make parking reservation which is $15 cash or credit card very well worth it.

Nowhere near as large as the Getty museum itself by UCLA. But there are self-paced tours and you can also contact Oasis for there Christian based tours of the museum by reservation only and donation for the guide.

The gift shop is rather small but it carries many many different variety of things of great interest.

Beautiful Gardens! Be prepared - reservations are needed on the weekends and parking is $15. But the work is really impressive to see and the gardens are captivating. Well worth the trip!

Add this unique destination to your L.A. trip! My wife studied Interior Design for her bachelor's degree so this was her favorite part of our L.A. trip. Also, I do like that this is less of a touristy spot. I recommend getting here early for great shots without any "extras". ????

The Getty is another treasure of Los Angeles free to the public (just pay $15 per car for parking). Also, make sure you select a ticketed time slot online and have the ticket ready to present to staff shortly after you turn right into the Getty.

The grounds are beautifully maintained with a breathtaking peek at the ocean from the eastern side. There are four main garden areas that you can view in roughly 30 minutes and two levels of art galleries that take you a little longer, say, 45 minutes to an hour. Some of the upper galleries rotate for new exhibits. For everything from when you drive into the gate until you drive out, you should plan on at least two hours.

Favorite must sees are the frescos and mosaics on the second floor which are in prime condition for 1st Century artifacts. The intricate (and some are very modern-looking) glass pieces are very interesting too.

The statue of Hercules is probably the most notable piece that is part of the permanent collection on the first floor, but there’s no shortage of very high quality Classical Antiquities on the first floor. There is also a rotating exhibit space on the first floor as well, I believe.

We ate lunch in the cafe which was good. Prices are what you’d expect for a museum, just a touch on the expensive side but not disappointing for what you get. A quality lunch spot.

The Getty Villa is a great visit for a relax in a quiet and very beautiful locale.

Parking is $15. Reservations are to be made online, printing out the FREE tickets. It is recommended to buy parking, as it is located in a spot where you can't really park near the Getty Villa Museum. Also, the parking will help support this beautiful museum. The museum has incredible art in the forms of rings, gemstones, jewelry, statues, and of course architecture! There is also food a available to buy; there are tables as well. Besides that, there are many benches and places to rest throughout the Getty Villa.
