Excellent experience at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Also visited the Korean Friendship Bell, which is a great place to view the shoreline and ocean from above. Truly enjoyed San Pedro.
This is a cool little aquarium. The drive getting there is unique because most people don't get to see the hundreds of boats carrying the shipping containers that number in the thousands that all together hold hundreds of millions in retail merchandise as you cross over the harbor on the Vincent Thomas bridge. Once on the other side the very informative and manageable in one day aquarium has a lot to see and do. Great for the kids. If you like seafood or surf 'n turf, the restaurants at Ports o' Call wont disappoint.
A bit dated but a very wonderful aquarium and gem in the city. Donations are accepted but not required, parking here for the aquarium or the beach is $1.00 an hour up to a maximum of $9.00 for the day. The outside parking lot has Metro bike rentals as well, you can find various Lime scooters scattered throughout.
Aside from that, the aquarium itself has an exploration area, a nursery, an outdoor touch area with touch times spaced a good 30 minutes apart to allow adequate time and not overflow and oversaturate the outside area. Wonderful and detailed exhibits throughout. All in all my children had a wonderful time and I really enjoyed coming here. The hands on exploration area is the best, magnifying glasses, exhibits, books and puzzles and all sorts of activities to keep you all busy throughout the day.
I would very likely be returning.
I'm not a marine life fan. I am still impress of what they got in there. Especially free admission. I hope they can decorate the facility better so it doesn't look like fish market as a museum.
I really enjoyed my time here.. It's not as popular as the long Beach aquarium nor as large but it's still a lot to see. Tide pools open at certain times of they day so check the schedule. They have giant spiny lobsters over 12 pounds. They do a great job at explaining the local reefs and sea life. If you like to fish it's a great way to make the connection on what you're targeting in the water. The research facility is unique and great for students at the high school level. Come take a look and donate to their cause.
(310) 548-7562. I love this place. It's the perfect place to go on a little family outing or even just for something to do. I learned about this aquarium from a marine biologist colleague of mine who volunteered his time here. He said it is a pretty good learning institution... and he's been coming here...
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium offers an amazing learning experience where you can actually touch the sea ...life. They also preserve the environment and are working to save critically endangered species like the white abolone, available to see at the aquarium. This is a great place to spend a few hours...

+1 310-548-7562. Call. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Tour. This aquarium has lots to see from fish tanks to touch tanks to beautiful (?) jellyfish. That is not all Habitats Hall shows though for there are exhibits showing the natural habitat of other species of the surrounding area.
