Tuk Tuk Thai is a very casual restaurant off the main street. There is limited street parking out front with meters and lots of restrictions. We found a spot that had free parking after 8 PM. We made a reservation since there were 6 of us. The outside dining area was full. We sat inside. There are a few counter seats inside and tables and chairs inside. The restaurant is small and very busy. The red neon light and the original art on the wall gave the restaurant a cool vibe. We ordered family style. The most popular dish was Pad Zee Ew with beef was the crowd favorite. We ordered it with mild spice and it still had a little bit of heat. The Tom Yum soup with shrimp was big enough for 6 people and we still have some left over. The soup came in a pot with a flame to keep it hot. We ordered a few items to start and kept ordering items as the night went on. Everyone liked the spring rolls and OG garlic wings and the dipping sauce. The service was great and they helped us pick out dishes to try. The 18% tip was included on our bill but the waiter still expected us to tip on top of that. He didn’t realize the tip was already included. I would recommend this place and want to try more items on the menu.
The place is good, seafood fried rice and pork collar are great, Thai fried rice is not as good. Mango sticky rice is also a good choice, but I only had it once and the mango is not quite sweet (the rice is pretty good though).
Two suggestions: 1. Make the place brighter, it is too dark. 2. One of the waitress please work on her attitude towards people (i.e., do not discriminate).
All of the classic Thai dishes with lots of excellent additions. Really cool space, but more importantly really great taste.
Also everyone here is incredibly nice.
One time while waiting for a takeout order, they came outside to insist on turning the heat lamp on so I would survive the freezing 60 degree weather.
Tuk Tuk Thai is tucked away on Sawtelle south of Santa Monica Blvd, but it is an absolute gem!! I’ve ordered take out twice from across the menu, but last time came to pick it up and was charmed by the premises. The interior is completely soundproofed from the traffic outside, the people are beautiful and their Tom Sab Beef Shank is a lemongrass-Herb-Citrus flavor explosion that’s out of this world. If you’re in the neighborhood, just stop in and enjoy a healing moment with this hot pot of heaven in the midst of west LA!
This is the exact Thai food this area needed. The vibe of the restaurant is so hip and cool and the food was overall great.
I had the Tom Yum soup cup, Chicken Satay and Pad See Ew!! And the Thai tea in the end which was too sweet I think!
