I love that there's so much to do for free in the Los Angeles area that you would never dream is actually here. My companion has been hiking in this area many many times and felt that I would be able to do this hike even just recovering from knee surgery. He was right. We walked up to the ruins of a house that had been built higher up on the hills and we spend a lot of time poking around and imagining what that house would have looked like in its Glory Days the walk is easy, much of it is still asphalt although it's been damaged in many places and is not strictly flat. There were some areas that he knew were very Steep and probably wouldn't have been good for my knee and we took alternate routes because many were available. We cross some very shallow creeks with dry rocks in them that we could easily navigate without slipping into the water. This was a very clean hiking area. I saw absolutely no trash lying around to make the scenery any less beautiful. I'm sure there's a lot of fauna in the area but we didn't see any ourselves on this trip. I can say for sure this is an area I will go back to once my knees are better and I would look forward to doing some more exploration and seeing what else is available there. There are restrooms at the start of the trail. They look like they would be regular bathrooms but they are kind of like glorified out houses in effect. But it's the kind of thing to be grateful for that there is a restroom at all LOL. By the way there's a really cool modern glass House that you can see from the parking lot. I'm not sure how to get there or whether it's actually inhabited or not but it's really cool to look at.
This is a great hike spot. It offers mostly 2 ways to get to the ruins, an easy one and then a moderate hike. I've only done the moderate trail which is the Rising Sun trail, but I complete the loop on the way back from the ruins and the small waterfall. It's not shaded so make sure you bring a cap, and sun screen!
This hike is a little bit of heaven with fun surprises awaiting. For your first visitake. the Solstice canyon trail you will. know it because a large portion is paved. Dogs are welcome, free parking and restrooms. Lock your valuables as I have know a couple people that have suffered break in by leaving things in view. Bring water
A great hike even on a hot day as it's nestled. below a canopy of tress. Look up for thr noisy wild parents in the trees. There is a waterfall at the end and it's an easy hike for kids and older people too. I didn't want to post pictures as it would ruin the surprise at the end.
Trail from the first parking lot to the Paul r. Williams ruins is 1/3 paved, 1/3 dirt, and a 1/3 crumbling pavement mixed with dirt. The canyon itself is gorgeous and ruins are well kept... For ruins. Good signage once you get into the trail.
This is a great place to run or a beginner's hike because most of the trail is leveled. The trail is nicely kept up and at the beginning its sunny but towards the river there's plenty of trees to provide you with shade. You have the option to stay on the flat path or make half your hike go uphill where you get a nice view of the beach. Highly recommend for families and pets. Bonus waterfall at the end!
