A nice easy trail with a gorgeous view at the top. Definitely gotta check it out for yourself. Took us little over an hour to get to the top via the ridge.

Really great hike and trail without too many people. Great views of the surrounding mountains and a bit of the valley. In good visibility, you will be able to see the outline of the skyscrapers in Downtown LA. If you get to the top of Sunset Peak, be on the lookout for the “activity log”/diary that’s hidden. Top of peak is at an elevation of 5,796 ft.

Parking: on the turnouts/side of the road along Glendora Ridge Road. There is a large lot opposite from the trail but it clearly mentions “no parking, Fire access only”. There are usually some cars that stop there temporarily for the sunset/views around 630pm but don’t park there if you are going on the hike.

Trail: 2 options, to the right is a wide dirt fire road that zig zags up the mountains. This is the moderate difficulty trail. Lots of tree cover and shade, gradual incline. When you get to a fork in the road later on, keep left to get to sunset peak.

The other option is a small path to the left up the mountain. This option is STRENUOUS with steep incline and loose rock. It’s known as the subset peak shortcut trail, it’s much shorter but much harder to get up or down. I took it down and although there are some really beautiful areas and it feels more wild/natural, it’s really easy to slide by accident due to the loose rock/sand that crumbles out under your feet.
