“I used Shakeh for her other specialty, Functional Medicine. I have a chronic skin condition that has gotten worse in recent years. Antihistamines and topical steroids weren’t cutting it, so I decided to try Functional Medicine, which looks at how well your various internal systems are functioning. She recommended a range of tests to find out what my body is sensitive to. It was expensive but I am very glad I did it, because I learned things that there is no other way to learn. I am highly sensitive to dairy, eggs and a handful of other things that are easily avoided. For six months I cut all of my sensitive foods out of my diet. I am proud that I achieved nearly 100% compliance the whole time. During that period, my skin slowly got better and better. I had a few flares, but they were less severe and cleared up more quickly. By the end of 6 months, my skin was pretty well controlled, between the sensitive food avoidance and a topical med lightly applied. It did not “cure” me (the condition is incurable) but it did show me that avoiding eggs and dairy really helps a lot and makes pharmaceuticals more effective. Shakeh was AMAZING throughout this long process. She took the time to listen to me and my experiences. She noticed things and asked me about them in a spirit of compassionate inquiry. Plus, she is a former lab tech (!), so she really understands every detail of the tests that she recommends. Huge bonus. Acupuncture isn’t my thing but I am a huge fan now of Functional Medicine and highly recommend Shakeh Avanessian.”
