My son has always been adamant how he prefers to be self taught watching YouTube videos for piano and refused lessons. After a year of playing I convinced him to check out McCormick Music in Costa Mesa. The piano instructor Art comes highly recommended even from friends of mine that have not been here, just word of mouth from other parents. Fast forward 4 months and my son is loving piano lessons, understanding theory and building the confidence to perform. Next up is vocal lessons and engineering which he’s excited to do
My son has been taking vocal lessons with Arthur Ortiz. We highly recommend it! Arthur has been a great teacher. He helps our 9-year old with vocal auditions and he records 1-minute cut for our son, so he has a library of songs to ready him for his future auditions.
My son has only started taking piano lessons since the pandemic started. He has never met his wonderful teacher, Art Ortiz, in person and had never played the piano before but has been able to learn all the basics remotely and confidently. Art has a calm and supportive demeanor that I think most kids would respond to - he has obviously been teaching a long time and knows what he's doing. My son really enjoys his lessons and even practicing. The company is flexible with schedule needs too and Andrew is great and very accommodating. I would highly recommend McCormick Music Lessons.
Our son has taken piano lessons at McCormick over the last 9 months and he continues to learn so much. It is much more than a business; Andrew and Art are truly passionate about music and make learning enjoyable. In March, Andrew hosted an memorable event for students to showcase their talent, progress, share with family and jam together. With the uncertainty of current events; they have been flexible, steadfast in their mission and flawlessly communicated. We are so grateful to have discovered McCormick music.
I started taking lessons with Andrew just under a year ago. Prior to that I had next to 0 experience playing guitar (or anything else). We started off with a 15-20 minute phone call to go over my background in music (or lack there of), my interests, favorite artists, and goals. I went in around a week later for my first lesson, where we coved the absolute basics of guitar. I've had a great experience from day one. He had me playing right away, and honed in on the material that fit my interests.
Since then, our lessons have weaved through a variety of my favorite songs, artists, and genres. Drew is always excited to jump into whatever I might be listening to at the time or interested in playing. Regardless of the material, he takes care to ensure I understand the concepts behind the music and how to play it like a pro.
Each lesson, we cover different aspects of music theory, and spend a ton of time playing and practicing the topic(s) of the day. At the end of every lesson, he sends an overview of what we covered and a homework assignment challenging me to constantly improve. The overall progression has been well organized, engaging, and a lot of fun.
Throughout the past year I've made tremendous strides as a guitar player. Yet, beyond the quality of his teaching, I'm consistently blown away by Drew's kindness, patience, and genuine excitement for music and helping others learn. It has been amazing to see his operation grow out of his living room into a full music school brimming with eager students. No surprise. Drew's a top notch dude and gives top notch instruction.
