Being an owner of We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym ~ Laguna Hills that caters to kids of ALL abilities, I've seen a lot of therapists with their clients. And what I realized is that there are
therapists, and there is Deborah! She is one of a kind! Caring about each child like they are their own, giving them all the support they need, showing them the best ways of dealing with various situations, and being there for them. I'm very grateful to Deborah for a wonderful Music, Movement, and Social Skills program she brought to our gym. It gave a lot of children and parents a chance to get services they need. They all adore her, and always come back. Thank you, Deborah, for being there for all our families. You're truly a magician!
Dr. Deborah Graves has helped our family immeasurably. In the 21 months that our son has received therapy with her, he's gone from developmentally 18 months behind, to developmentally at age level in many areas. She's developed unique and interesting ways to work with our son, taking into account our goals, values and interests as a family. Deborah has incorporated our love of nature and technology, and our son's love of animals into our therapy sessions.
Before starting occupational therapy with Deborah, we both felt lost as parents, floundering with a child who needed more from us. She gave us tools, taught us about our son's needs, and developed a new approach to behaviors we didn't understand. We have come so far with our son because of Deborah. She's been an incredible part of our family, and we can't imagine what our lives would be like without her. We're so grateful for the hard word and dedication to our son's care.
My son has made remarkable progress in his four months of occupational treatment with Deborah Graves from Canyons to the Sea. I’ve found Deborah’s treatment practice a welcome change from the sterile offices of most health care professionals, which bear little resemblance to the home, school, and social life of clients. Deborah mostly comes to our home, which not only puts my son at ease; it also makes it easy for him to transfer skills learned in occupational therapy sessions to his everyday world.
While Deborah brings her own equipment, she helped me figure out ways to cheaply create our own. For instance, she helped us transform our outdoor wooden bench swing into a therapy swing set, where we attach a variety of specialized therapy swings. Since we can use this swing set everyday, we have built up my son’s core muscles much stronger than if we limited this work to therapy sessions. As a side benefit, our son’s friends enjoy playing with the swings when they visit.
My son also loves visiting The Canyons to the Sea Center, nestled in the rolling hills and canyons of Modjeska. In one of the therapy rooms, complete with large stuffed animals, a slide, hammocks, stimulating games, balls, a drawing board, and much more, my son works on building and activating his muscles and diverse sensory appreciation. In the other room, which has slow music, low-level lighting, and fine motor games, he focuses his attention and calms his nervous system. At the end of our sessions, he enjoys interacting with chickens, fruit trees, and wildlife on the grounds. We look forward soon to begin using the small pool on the property to help my son develop his muscle tone, calm his nervous system in new ways, and learn more about his body’s boundaries and placement in space.
Deborah displays immense respect for my son and my husband and me. I appreciate the way she encourages parent involvement with treatment plans, listens to our feedback, and gives us specific, clear suggestions for exercises and home therapies.
I should also mention this is the first Internet recommendation I’ve posted for any medical professional. I’ve taken time out my busy life to do so because I want other parents to have the satisfaction of seeing their children progress as much as my son has with Deborah’s holistic care.
