I am a junior (2018) and I absolutely love it here. This is the place that I would recommend you got to if you stand out from the crowd, because that is pretty much everybody here at carver. We are all the people that everybody thinks differently about. If you dress in a suit and tie, a panda costume, jeans and a t-shirt, your pajamas, or whatever (as long as it is "non revealing") nobody bats an eye. if want to ride a unicycle around campus that is totally fine too! The school is pretty small (around 300 students usually) so the teachers can really interact with the students individually. though it is called a school of arts and science it is more art focused than science focused. The teachers grade your art against your own standard so if you aren't the best artist its ok, they grade it based off of your previous work. I Really enjoy going to carver!

Small but intimate Arts and Science high school, that focuses more on the 'arts' portion. It's "Waldorf-Inspired", so for the un-initiated, it's more liberal, more open to working with students' needs. It's still part of Sac City Unified, so don't go expecting a full-Waldorf-type setting, as you will be greatly disappointed. As for me, I'd never sign my child up for a full Waldorf school, so this works well for our needs.

Classroom setting is more interactive and again, more intimate. Feedback I get from my kid is that, compared to other high schools, the students are WAY more friendly and welcoming. My daughter is an introvert, and came in not knowing but one person there. She had a horrible time in a traditional high school socially, but really found her footing here and has made some life-long friends.

Educationally, I wish there were more options for advanced classes, but currently AP courses are only offered for English and Art--that's it. They have a program that allows students to take classes at the junior college when they are juniors and seniors. You'd better make sure your kid has their driver's license. At times I wish my kid were more challenged(she's perfectly happy that she rarely has homework, but I worry she will not be prepared for heavier college studying), but with other situations she's been having, it's turned out well.

There are after school activities like photography. They do not have much in the way of a sports program, at all. They say they partner with other schools, but that really isn't the case. I was disappointed about this, and asked the principal what would be done to support our students more in this area. She never responded. On another note, my daughter is going on a trip through Europe this summer with fellow students and instructors, planned through the school. The fundraising for this could have been better, but that it's even an opportunity for students is just wonderful.

My daughter has what sounds to be very fair complaints regarding a few instructors. Mostly, she really loves her teachers, and I do, too. Claudia runs the office and she's top notch--clearly cares for the students, too.

One other thing: my daughter is in the LGBT community, and everyone there, EVERYONE, have been so accepting. I can't say enough good things when it comes to this issue. I am so grateful that this is the case.

Overall I have been extremely happy with this school. It's been a great match for my daughter's needs. There are some students who may want more of an academically aggressive school, and I wouldn't recommend Carver to them. However, I love that a school such as this--with a different learning style, smaller classes, and a more interactive and accepting environment, is being offered in Sacramento.

It's a great school. The teachers are really nice when you get to know them and the students can be very caring. it's a small community. everyone knows each other and get along.
    I like it very much.
