Nice beach with a decent sized parking lot, nearby restrooms, and showers. It was not crowded at all, however we were there on a Monday morning mid-April. I didn’t see much for food or retail within walking distance but we packed our lunch and spent the day. Great beach for kids, wave break isn’t too close to shore and there were nice flat areas to play in the sand near the water. Lots of surfers which was entertaining to watch!
One of my favorite beaches in San Diego County, its not ridiculously over populated or crowded depending on the time of year and day. Summer months when school is out is if course, a but more busy, but the beach is very much enjoyable and calming.
The beach spans a good part of Carlsbad and is surrounded with cute shops, restaurants, parks, lodging, and a cute walkable downtown area. Almost everything else is within walking distance.
When I lived in Orange County, Carlsbad was one of the places I’d venture off to, as it’s a good place to visit to refresh, relax and rejuvenate, and it was only a short 45 min drive on the 5 south. Its a nice little day trip and I really miss having easy and quick accessibility to a city like Carlsbad.
Great local surf spot.... if you're a local. From out of town? Go somewhere else because the locals own this spot and don't like sharing. Lol... that's how it was described to me by Mickey Clews, local surfer, 25 years ago! Watch the surf ... don't just walk by for exercise, make sure you look out. Great to spot marine life! Most beautiful place in Carlsbad.
Tamarack beach, has its own unique signature that you can appreciate even by driving along side it. It is a great place to exercise, do some yoga in peace, surf and even skim. Skateboarding and rollerblading are common on the sidewalk overlooking it. The beach is pet friendly and the community is very welcoming.
Public beach with paid parking. This was a fairly well know surf spot in years gone by but there is limited shoreline depth now. Still it's always going to hold a special place in my heart.
It is an easily accessible beach with a jetty on one end to provide a little bit of exploring for sea life.
