    This is a great trail for intermediate and advanced hikers. There are a lot of steep inclines so wear proper shoes. Make sure to bring lots of water. They have checkpoints so you dont have to get lost if youre tired. Restrooms are about .25 miles up the steep way.

    It's a beautiful preserve! If you are doing El Cajon Mountain or El Capitan trail, start before 7am and being more water than you think you need, and then some more. I brought 4 liters and ran out about a mile and a half from the car. Lots of elevation gains from start to finish, and the views from the summit are absolutely stunning. Plan for the entire day and make sure you get an early start as it gets HOT!

    Difficult hike, well marked. Bring more water than you think you need! It's not an "up and down" kind of hike.

    One of my favorite hikes in San Diego.

    It is VERY long at about 12 miles both ways. Not much shade and constant inclines and declines (both ways) make it one of the hardest hikes in San Diego. If you don't believe me, go look at some elevation maps on AllTrails.
