Best trail to ride a mountain bike on!!!
Just love this place! The history here is incredible! Think about it- hundreds of years ago our ancestors hunted and gathered food around this area! Its so nice here. Plenty off shade too! Pack a picnic and enjoy the scene! I really like it here! Alot!
This is a trail head right by the main Rancho Penasquitos Preserve entrance. It is about 3.2 miles to PQ “waterfall” and a good start for hiking, biking, and horse riding. The trail is very flat, but certain areas are rough due to big gravels. It is across the street from the new ranger station. There are plenty of parking spots.
Excellent trails for an easy day hike. There are no hills and there is a broad path that can easily accommodate strollers and bike. Parts of the canyon trails are under construction, however, making the terrain very rough and rocky. There are several single path trails that branch from the main trail that are very quiet and foot/horse traffic only. Most trails are shaded, but make sure you bring enough water for you and yours.
$3.00 parking, but there is street parking near by. The trail is open from dawn to dusk and will close during the rainy season as the canyon floods.
NOTE: these trails are horse friendly so you might encounter some people on horseback. Be aware that horse can easily be spooked by loud noises and running or bikes. Please keep an eye on any children and make sure they know to act calmly and quietly around the horses and not to approach.
