Great for beginners. Definitely need to go earlier. But beautiful views
From a mountain biker's perspective: This is a good entry into the park for access to the best bikeable trails. SDMBA has set up a box with free bike bells to borrow at the kiosk. There is no bathroom or fresh water available here.
People with young kids will probably prefer the lot by the visitor's center, as that area has water and bathrooms, and also gentler trails to the river.
I love hiking Mission Trails! This trailhead has less cars which is a plus! I did notice that the area was more populated with flies/bees, but nothing crazy to make you want to leave. Just keep hiking and enjoy the sun!
For me Mission Trails is a great place to hike and this is my preferred entry point. This time of year one needs to get an early start as there is very little shade. Fairly extensive network of trails with some terrain challenges.
Great local hike in San Diego. Nice 6.5 mile loop hike is perfect for small groups. Super convenient location short drive from most San Diego areas. Highly recommended.
