  We had heard of Presidio Wine Bunkers from a friend who currently stores their wine at this wine storage facility. They had mentioned in the most glowing terms of how Presidio Wine Bunkers leads the way in providing optimal wine storage conditions to wine collectors in San Francisco with an emphasis on professionalism and excellent client management. Well, the day we spoke with Gerry, the always helpful site mgr. at Presidio Wine Bunkers, there was already another couple ahead of us looking to rent a unit or two and Gerry mentioned how he would have to add everyone's name to a waitlist as there were no units at that time available to lease. Such is now the popularity of this very attractive storage facility.
  If and hopefully when our number comes up for an available unit, we will be heading over there fast to claim our spot. We live on Jackson Street and find the Presidio Wine Bunkers facility is so convenient to reach from our location. I have toured and researched similar wine storage facilities in the San Francisco area and over and over again this facility comes out on top.

  Here we are, sitting at a little table in the sun. It's about 65, beautiful blue sky, and the trees are swaying gently in the breeze. On the table in front of us is a 1998 BV Tapestry, which I have to say is tasting quite fine.
  
  Beyond the table is an old communications shack, behind us is what used to be a artillery munitions bunker, right next to where some big 12" guns batteries used to sit. It's all a little surreal.
  
  This is the Presidio Wine Bunker experience.
  
  A wise Greek fellow came up with the idea of using this facility to store wine and in the end has created a nice little facility. While we now live in the East Bay, my collection still rests here - partly to keep me from pulling a 95 Caymus Special Reserve when I am already past the point of knowing the difference, but mainly as an excuse to come out here once every month.
  
  They have maintained the facility's character, even restoring the lighting system to the original style. This is required by the Presidio Trust to preserve the character of the area. They have a history room with a table to sit at and open a bottle or two as well as pictures on the wall of what the place has looked like over the years.
  
  The staff there is friendly and helpful. The storage units are reasonably priced. And if you don't raise a ruckus, you and a couple of friends can come by, pull a bottle or two out of you "bunker" and enjoy the atmosphere.
  
  This is not a tourist site. So if you pull in with the intention of simply looking around, be prepared to get slightly grilled by the staff. They are responsible for maintaining and protecting the wine stored here. So they act accordingly.
  
  Also, I think they are completely filled, so don't bet on storing your wine there too unless something opens up. That's why they don't really advertise, no more room so no reason to.
