Nate M. is drinking a Whisk(e)y Barrel Noir by Prairie Artisan Ales. Peat dominates this one up front, with bourbon and a great base to follow. Good barrel treatment; I'm just not a huge peat fan.

Whisk(e)y Tasting Set When I was developing my whisk(e)y tasting journals, I consumed a fair bit of "liquid research." The kit includes one glass, two books (33 Drams of Scotch and 33 Glasses of Whiskey), and a pen in a bold, whisk(e)y barrel-inspired box that includes some tips on tasting.
It smells of slightly smokey pale and caramel malt, a further free-range wet ashiness, subtle generic whisk(e)y barrel notes (vanilla and a rye-like boozy astringency), bittersweet cocoa powder, some berry-forward red wine notes, subtle cafe-au-lait, and a faint earthy and musty hop bitterness.
I've used oak chips twice. Once with bourbon, the other an Islay Scotch. But in both cases, the aim was to produce the aged-whisk(e)y barrel flavour. - winwaed Sep 18 '17 at 14:31.
