I grad in 1979-80. I went back 20 yrs later as a T/A for spec.ed. Ms. Lackey was still there. I worked with Ms. San Gabriel and Dr.George. When I left had Mr Demelio as principal (later bacame Super.)and Mr Veronda as vice, (whom I heard was working with incarcerated young boys) The school was accredited then and im sure it only got better. It definitely had its share of derelict students, parents and a couple shady teachers but for the most part , it had some outstanding faculty that will always be remembered.
We had Langstons in the 50's
Turturici's in the 60's & Langstons again in the 70's. Love you Bayside❤aloha

This school provides safety to our environment and safe for your children attend Bayside. Kids don’t seem to appreciate how schools work, mostly the 8th graders

I have had 2 children at Bayside--one who just graduated. Although it was not my original plan to send them there (though it's my neighborhood school) and I sent them to a private school for most of elementary school, I have to say that I believe that, overall, they have received instruction at Bayside comparable to private school education --and in some ways, better. Really have loved the fact that my kids were exposed to a variety of different STEM subject matters (i.e., architecture, marine biology, etc.) that they would not have been to at a traditional public school or most private schools. Although some of the standardized test scores are subpar, I would attribute such to the fact that there are some students who come from families who either do not value education or have difficult family situations, rather than lack of great teachers. Through the total of 3 years (combined instruction 6th - 8th grades), I would say all but one of the teachers that my children have had are excellent and could easily secure positions at private schools if they so chose. My only disappointments with the school are that some of the buildings/grounds are quite in need of updating/cleaning up and the kids are disappointed to have such a short summer. The upside of the year-round schedule, however, is the fall break and extended winter and spring breaks are awesome! The district, however, is in the process of trying to modify the year-round schedule so that it aligns more with the traditional school schedule. Also, although there are some kids who may be considered "troubled" or troublemakers, the school is pretty on top of things and there are a few staff members who are pretty well-trained at how to handle disciplinary issues. Not sure how much they are trying to upgrade the school's physical appearance at this point though...
