  I am 40 hours pre-solo and I have logged time with CFI's at Gnoss Field (DVO), Petaluma, and now Santa Rosa (STS). Gnoss was a combination of pricey options and cross winds. Petaluma has a nice looking flight school but the personalities were not a good match for me. Even though it was an hour away from me, I checked-out North Coast Air in Santa Rosa. I will always admire the careful approach they took by having me do a checkride with their Master Instructor (Art) before suggesting a plan.
  
  After 5 hours with NCA, I was solo and I have now completed two cross country flights and an hour of night landings (!). What was becoming an insurmountable challenge has become both fun and - yes - still challenging - but it feels different when the flight school is behind you instead of in front of you. I can't wait for my next hour in the air.
  
  The CFI's are well disciplined and earnestly committed to student progress and quality learning. They work together and often cross check their students with each other. The fleet is well maintained and they get extra points for sending out oil samples for analysis to do predictive maintenance. They have 3 172's, 2 182's, a Piper Cherokee 140, and a mini-Baron so they can take you all the way to complex-twin IFR ratings.
  
  And yes, there are dogs. The owners of the flight school are associated with Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). The dogs are professional assistance dogs in training or retired. In both cases, they are better behaved than most people.
  
  To the best of my knowledge, I've experienced all of the options on this side of the Bay. When I was trying to get started, I wish somebody had just told me to buck-up and head north - I think I would have saved 20+ hours of wing flapping :-)

  Awesome flight school with a nice selection of planes and some great instructors. Aircraft access is incredibly easy and efficient.

  Had a great experience there! Went for a flight tour and had a great time. It was much more then I expected. The staff were amazing and sweet. Our pilot was very skilled and fun. He is a cargo pilot for Atlas Air and he is a flight instructor on his days off. It was a very hands on experience. The pilot did a very good job at involving us during the flight. For example, he explained very clearly the controls of the airplane and also he let me control the airplane during some of the flight. He was very knowledgeable about the area and took us to some very interesting places. In the office they also had the sweetest dogs ever. All in all it was an experience of a life time. I highly recommend them whether you want to see the beautiful Sonoma Valley from above or you are just a plane lover (like me:).

  I got my pilot's license training at North Coast Air. The school has the most competent instructors in Sonoma County and in the country. My Dad Art is Master Chief Flight Instructor who taught me, and numerous people over 30 years how to fly. I have also flown with numerous other instructors over the years - I love the staff, and people who come here. Friendly people all around. Encouraging "you can do it!" attitude is the vibe. If you're looking to train or accelerate in the field, it's a great place to go! (Oh, and the scenic air tour for non-pilots is a memorable experience most people love!) :)

  We had a fantastic sightseeing adventure. We always want to include something unique and memorable on our vacations. This was the perfect way to see the coastline and sights most people miss. From our very informative and skilled pilot, the sweet young lady that helped me make the arrangements and proximity to our resort we couldn't have chosen a better way to spend the afternoon. I would highly recommend this tour. Thanks for the experience!
