(December 6, 2018, 3:02 pm)Ventura County Animal Shelter is a government operated facility that must take in any animal that comes to its door, it therefore is not a no kill facility, very few government shelters are No Kill. Shelters that are no kill are either privately funded SPCAs and humane societies or other small organizations. These places pick and choose which animals they will accept and normally don’t take aggressive or damaged pets.
VCAS offers low cost spay and neuter. Spaying and neutering and microchipping your pet is the best way to prevent it from ending up at the shelter. Please adopt from here as these animals greatly need a home. VCAS does have a foster program which helps take pets that have behavioral problems like shy cats or young pets not yet neutered or pets with medical issues and elderly pets and temporarily places them into a family environment. Fostering saves lives!! If you have room please offer to become a foster parent as this also frees up cage space for animals at the shelter, no cage space is the main reason animals are euthanized! FCAS will pay for foster pet medical care and has pet food donations. If you are looking for a chihuahua VCAS is the place to go as they currently have 20 up for adoption. -

Animal Adoptions The Ventura County Animal Shelter is located at 600 Aviation Drive at the Camarillo Airport. Dogs and cats are available for adoption on a daily basis. Shelter hours are 10 AM to 7 PM on Monday, 3 PM to 7 PM Tuesday through Friday. and 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday.
