This is an excellent airfield. The Springs staff are all excited and into flying. It is contagious. Conner must have nerves of steel to put up with us newbies.

Learned a Ton Flying in Colorado Springs at Meadow Lake Airport.

I am 29 hrs into my PPL and was up on vacation from Texas.

    1. You can actually find perfectly maintained 50 year old planes that fly like new. I fell in love with "BECKY". Gotta remember carb heat on approach.
    2. Learned to fly into and communicate at untowered airports.
    3. Did soft field landings onto dirt strip at another airport Co Springs East (My school wont let you do this)
    4. Learned how to fly in 9100 ft density altitude. In Sugar Land (81 ft), I can get to 1000 ft above the ground in less than a minute and it took over 5 minutes here. Also, stalls are funny - They come earlier, but recovery is soother. Finally, landing requires more velocity and power all the way through ground effect. I pulled out throttle too early on one landing and it dropped like a rock.
    5. Stay away from the Air Force Academy. Those guys are busy.

Haley is exactly what you want in a CFI. She lets you make mistakes and sees if you will correct before she jumps in. For instance, after we re-fueled, she let me start the engine with the selector on OFF. She waited pretty long before saying "I wonder if your engine might die".

Big props (no pun intended) to Springs Aviation and Haley for letting this "Sea Level Texan" come fly up high!

Recently completed my commercial certificate with Springs Aviation and had an awesome experience! Great staff all!. Flew with multiple CFIs, each very helpful and went above/beyond to help prep me for CPL check ride. Good aircraft/instructor availability, easy scheduling, Meadow Lake fun place to fly. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in a achieving their flying goals in a positive, professional setting that gets the job done!
