It is amazing to see these animals that seem to reincarnate in Stone Age bodies. To really see them here in the county of Denver, here are some tips. Actually the best chance of seeing them is to just get off the exit 254 and if they are there, you will be able to see them at the first Stop Sign. The Buffalo can also be seen from 1-70 when heading west into the mountains on the right side of the road. If you are heading east towards Denver also look to your right because the Buffalo can be on either side of the highway as they are able to pass under the highway through a tunnel in order to also get the pasture there.
Wonderful stop before heading far into the mountains, the animals are amazing to see against the mountains.
Parents of small childern, please keep your kiddos behind the wooden fence, when and if the buffalo does charge, youll want your kid out of the way.
Great place to see the Genesee Park buffalo herd. Note that there are at least three good spots to see the herd, depending upon where they are currently. The parking spaces right next to exit 254 is the most obvious. If you go south from there over the interstate and then take a right into Genesee Park, there is another overlook down the road that looks over the middle pasture. If you go further to exit 253, turn north, and follow Stapleton road, there is a third overlook at the north pasture. The south pasture doesn't have an overlook that is accessible via road; you have to hike along the Genesee Mountain Trail to see it.
we saw many beautiful buffalo!!! would love to go back. at least we were able to get the semi parked there
We loved the view and how close we could get to these amazing animals! My 3 year old still hasn't stopped talking about it!! Its a must see after leaving lookout mountain.
