Standley Lake High School

This is an amazing school I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was thinking about enrolling here. Most of the people who have negative views on this school have had a bad experience with their teacher or other students. People say that there are bad kids here but that is simply because they aren't hanging out with the right people and get themselves in trouble. Sure there are some bad people but there are simple ways to avoid them and getting in trouble. Most of the teaches here are great but some kids just don't wanna be in school and don't focus on their learning and the teachers are very good about trying to redirect them but then the students get very mean and defensive. When the students say that the teachers are mean they have it all wrong, I have seen the students be more mean to the teachers than you would think. Those people who have written the bad reviews don't know what they are talking about. I understand that one or two good reviews aren't going to necessarily change your opinion but those bad reviews shouldn't either. We have a very good learning environment and very nice teachers who are concerned with the learning of the students and are very trustworthy.

I love my high school, even though most my classmates are pieces of s**t, I still respect there opinion. My teachers are awesome and have some hilarious story's and jokes.

Pros:
(most of) The teachers here seem to have a sense of humor and enjoy their job.

Many opportunities for sports and a really passionate and growing arts program.

Probably the best Jeffco school in terms of foreign language courses.

A boatload of extracurricular or after-school activities

Cons:

There is a drug problem, but that kind of thing is to be expexted. It's high school, for crying out loud

Campus is pretty run down and needs to be renovated more often

The music program is under-funded (coming from a band kid :/)

Overall I think that this school is looked down upon and the media portrays it to be worse than it really is. Of course it's not objectively a fantastic school, but it's one that I don't mind being a student in. Good things come and go

I am forever grateful for Sara Puff, my sons guidance counselor. She has always provided wonderful support and is very quick to respond to my questions or concerns. A+ for sure!
