One of the BEST for experienced MTB (intermediate). Beautiful area. The start coming from the trail head can be a giant mud mess though. Right now it is a disaster (Jam 30, 2020).
Blue sky to Indian Summer to Devil's Backbone is quick and flowy on a mtbike, just watch the deer and be courteous to hikers.
A great trail for running, hiking, and biking! Dog friendly, well maintained, and mostly flat. We visited in February and walked along the dry bed of the reservoir. Fun to see what's underwater most of the year! We'll be back this spring to see how it's changed!
Blue Sky Trail stretches approximately 14-15 miles(if you count devils backbone trails) between devils backbone and the start of Lory state park trails(which stretch all the way to Laramie,WY approximately 40 miles north.) There is very little shade cover prior to lory state park, however the trail does circle the rear of horse tooth reservoir via Soderberg open space. Be prepared with plenty of water and suncreen. The trails are well defined and well maintained. The Indian Summer Loop in between Devils Backbone and Horsetooth Reservoir is a good place for wildlife watching and wildflowers. There is one large tree in the valley for a nice lunch break area.
