Moraine Park Campground

I was there Aug 27&28 2018. This campground is great for kids and families. The wildlife is fantastic. There are deer who wander through the campground to graze, and there elk bugling in the adjacent meadows! Beautiful!
There are some downsides, and they colored my experience. To enter the campground, there is a gate. I waited there for over 30 minutes to get through and to my reserved spot.
This is huge campground, and the sites are close together, many right up against the road. There are walk-in sites, but they are also very close together. While I probably had the most secluded site, I had to walk through 3 other sites to get to it. There was a parking place, but no direct path. Personally, I don’t go camping to disturb other campers. Even in the very private site, I was treated to a drunk neighbor wailing at her partner all evening. Not cool, not relaxing, not what we go there for.
There are flush toilets and bear boxes, but you may have to share the box with others.
There were car alarms going off. There were kids playing loudly at 6am.
I’ll go back to see the elk rut, but I’m going to stick with remote forest service campgrounds after that. Great place to glamp, but if you enjoy quiet, this isn’t the place for you.

Great place to stay inside the park. The camground is open year round, which is rare in the area (even for the private ones). of course there is no running water in the winter. The campground has beautiful views of Longs Peak and is very close to Moraine Park.
