  You would think a public beach would be less well taken care of than the private ones. You would be wrong. This place is magical. My favourite beach in Fairfield County. Yes I've been to them all.

  Great park with plenty of parking, nice walking, bike riding paths. Snack bar is very nice. Views of Long Island Sound are beautiful.

  West Beach at Sherwood Island State Park is a great place to spend a day. The beach doesn't get crowded and typically well isolated large parties and beach goers. Its nice here in early September or October ..the water is warm and good swimming when high tide.

  Little known and quiet state park, with amazing views of the city on a clear day, from the waters of the sound Ocean to those of the Atlantic.
  
  There is a large area where you can picnic near the entrance and bathrooms with water, there's plenty of parking (also a second parking little bit up the road before the start of the trail, and finally a small-ish one at the end of the road.
  
  Entrance is a bit pricey if you aren't a CT resident, but you can buy an annual pass for the summer. Park hours are variable, closes at sunset like most places.

  Great area to visit. The beaches are some of the nicest I've seen. Nice sand that's not ouchy to walk on. Low tide offered the ability to find creatures and there is space for picnics and kites etc.
