  Talk about a hidden gem! I’ve been living in the DC area for so long and never knew that this place existed until recently. I would recommend that when visiting bring comfortable shoes because he will be walking for a while. Definitely a place to check out if you’re in the neighborhood they have some cool spots to take pictures of the monument.

  Excellent parking to leave your cat at to go for a walk on the island, ride your bicycle north to Georgetown, south to Mount Vernon, or crossing the I-66 bridge on the pedestrian/cyclist designated into DC or specifically for to get to the Kennedy Center. Only inconvenience is that this parking can only be reached from the north bound side of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Leaving the parking must continue north to Spout Run Parkway where yoh can turn around to be able to head south. Otherwise, nice and convenient.

  Lovely National monument, park, and wildflowers, salamanders, and birds. Bring water, I did not check the restroom situation but there appears to be some on the grounds. Expect a mixture of dirt paths and elevated paths to preserve the marsh. There is a lot of water so mosquitoes will be harsh in the spring and summer. A wonderful way to spend the day and it’s safe to go alone as there are many persons during the day.
