An amazing site to visit whether you’re from afar or right here in the archdiocese. There’s a very moving permanent exhibition detailing the Saint’s life and a blood relic in a small shrine. They also hold Masses on a frequent basis.
If you enjoy the Basilica you must also make time to see this shrine. A gorgeous church, a chapel with a blood relic, and a full museum complete with films and artifacts. It's very modern bit really beautiful.
Saint John Paul II has a wonderful shrine in northeastern DC. It's a little bit off the beaten path, but I have been told many times that John Paul II himself preferred to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy peace in nature. There is even a grotto featuring a bronze (with a beautiful green patina) statue of the late sainted pontiff, even further away from the road, beyond the shrine itself. If you go to visit the shrine, see both statues; the one near the shrine, and the other further separated. Let the peace of nature overcome you and enjoy!
A state of the art exhibit about the Pope's life . It's a great serene church to visit by all means .
This Shrine is an amazing tribute and way to pay homage to Saint John Paul II! The sanctuary is gorgeous with all of the mosaics. Each mosaic depict one of the great stories in the Bible, from the Nativity to the enslavement of the Jewish people in Egypt. Overall, my experience at the shrine surpasses 5 stars.
