Very cool "hidden" spot to visit in Rock Creek.
Slightly off the beaten path are the so-called Capitol Ruins, a collection of literally chock-a-block stacks of stonework discarded from a renovation of the Capitol in 1958 - most of it originating from when the Capitol was first built more than 200 years ago. It has the look and feel of a strange cross between a cemetery and the end of super-sized game of Jenga. Now half overgrown by the encroaching forest, moss and lichen, these pieces of stone appear content to rejoin their more earthbound brethren after their brief hiatus from the natural-order-of-things at the whim of some know-it-all, opposable-thumbed, short-timing bio-organisms.
Hard to find at first glance - if you're at a maintenance station you're in the right place though, it's behind it. Don't forget your bug spray, we got eaten alive.
The Capitol Columns at the Arboretum get the spotlight, these are the left over bits. Tossed in the woods and all but forgotten.
