I have been going to owl Lookout park to walk my small dog on weekend mornings for a while now. It’s worth the 10 minute drive from Weston for the quaintness and peace of the space where there’s hardly ever anybody else. There are two parts to the park: one on either side of the street, and Both are nice.. Today, after being there so many times, we finally saw the burrowing owls just sitting outside their tunnel swiveling their little heads at us. I kept my leash short And thank goodness my dog is small so we disturbed them minimally — they just watched us and I took a few pictures that I doubt came out any good because we were too far away. But it is their territory and I didn’t want to get any closer. It was a real treat and I was very excited to finally see the burrowing owl.

This park is way cool. I usually drive to 10 minutes or so from Weston to take my dog walking there early on weekend mornings. My dog is small and on a short leash so we don’t disturb the owls but I never really saw I was before until today. They were sitting right outside their borough and their little heads twisted all the way around to look at those. It was a treat for me because really we don’t see eye was that much and I’ve been looking for them as long as I’ve been coming to the park. Somebody went there last night and left a mess or maybe the stuff flew out of the garbage can because it’s so windy and I was sorry I didn’t have gloves to pick up the garbage. It is a small quaint little space that we very much enjoy

Cute little park. Has a small path with exercise stations. Also has a covered picnic area and a grill. But...no restrooms.

This park is the result of Vice Mayor Susan Starkey's work to protect the burrowing owls. In 2010 the Davie Town Council dedicated the open space at SW 26 Street and Flamingo Road for the purpose of preserving and protecting burrowing owls who face a small risk of future extinction. They are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. These owls are small and live in underground burrows found usually in parks. In this case a park was created to protect the burrows. Three artificial burrows were created in the park with the help of students from Indian Ridge Middle School, members of Broward County, South Florida Audubon Society, Project Perch, and town staff. It is thought that the park is home to 11 burrowing owls. The park is actually located on two sides of a road. A major downside to the park is that there is no parking lot. I took a risk and parked anyway and could not believe my eyes when a saw an owl perched on his protection sign. I actually saw four owls hanging out the burrow but only one wanted his picture taken. I don't usually see owls so this was a real treat for me. In addition to the protected burrows the park also contained a pavilion, picnic tables, benches, a paved walking trail, and a small butterfly garden.
