This is a very beautiful nature trail in the heart of Parkland. It does not have it's own parking lot so you have to park down the street at the Riverland Elementary School and then walk over. Named for the family that donated the land there is a half mile loop, part path and part boardwalk that winds through 20 ares of tropical hammock. At the start of the trail the city has kindly left some bug spray to protect you from the mosquitoes. Wildlife that has been sighted here include 51 species of birds including herons and owls, butterflies, raccoons, snakes, foxes, mice, frogs, and toads. There are benches along the path and a large outdoor pavilion donated by the Riverland PTA for use as an outdoor classroom. It is wonderful that Parkland was able to save this parcel of land from being developed into apartments.
Nice little trail that is mainly a recycled plastic board walk. There are a bit of spiders and a lot of mosquitos when it is season. There are some nice ferns. The trial is a good size for the location and you can get a good amount of exercise with 3 laps around. It is quite and even has free mosquito repellent. The photos here are a bit better if you got a nice camera. A lot of fallen trees.
Great local nature reserve left to its original status with little intrusion by humans.
