This park is very dog friendly. Dogs are allowed everywhere but the visitor center. It is also part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve, so you can do the nature trail for that as well. The visitor center had passport stamps for both parks. There is about a 10 minute walk to get to the fort. It is mostly flat. The fort itself was very small but in great shape. There were some docks to overlook the water on the walk to it.
This is a cute little place to visit and learn some fun facts. It was raining when we visited, so we didn’t get to do the outside activities, but there was still plenty to see and do. You can probably knock everything out in under a couple of hours!
One of the smallest forts in the area but I found it to be very well organized! I really enjoyed spending some time here in the morning! Spend some time on the trails then check out the visitor center as it has a lot of great information about the ecological area!
I went with my corgi dog to hike the trails and it was a perfect day. Sunny but not to hot. We went on the longer trail and it was very pretty. The fort location was well keep With lots of written information and there seemed to be a lot of educational speaker/learning opposites.
The visitor center was also informative. I particularly liked going out on the pier to look at the water and back at the fort.
Wonderful rolling terrain hike about a mile in length and a visit to the replica fort along the river is great. Enjoyed visiting this park for over 40+ years.
