  Although my surgery isn't until next week ,my initial experience with Dr Portillo and his staff was remarkable.Dr. Portillo spent at least an hour describing my problem with my back ,then showing me on my MRI where the problems were,then discussing alternate methods of fixing my back and together we decided on surgery next week. I've done extensive research on Dr. Portillo before going to him. Leaving his office I felt confident in having this complex surgery,and confident in Dr. Portillo doing a superior job. I'm looking forward to giving the same review post surgery. His office staff also friendly, bending over backwards to please their patients. Glad I met all of you and that Dr. Portillo will continue to be a medical genius as he was described to me.My surgery was done Feb 14 and it is now Mar 11. My follow up exam was perfect. i did have a complex surgery as several different things were being done. I was able to walk the first nite in the hospital,Yes, most of that was due to pain meds I'm sure but the most amazing thing was my horrible pain in my leg was gone . I get twitches in my rt cheek here and there but i know it is early in my recovery for no pain what so ever. Yesterday I was able to walk without my walker and daily see improvements. pain is rapidly subsiding as it was pretty intense the first 3 weeks after surgery. Dr. portillo does not believe in pain meds once you leave the hospital and believe me I am glad i did not cave in to pain mrg. Sometimes I wanted to but with lots of prayer and belief in my surgeon it turned out so much better in the healing process. Don't forget this is your back it is going to hurt. deal with it and feel better.You don't need the drugs. tylenol works just do it every 4 hours Listen to the doc. This is his speciality . His office staff is wonderful. the hospital couldn't do enough to help. Dr. Portillo and his entire team know what they are doing. I cannot imagine going to anyone else.He is a special doc put in this world to really help those who need a neuro surgeon for their back or brain.Thankyou Dr. Portillo

  The visit was great. Everything was explained to us and we left feeling very confident in Dr. Gonzales-Portillo. He has a great bedside manner and is easy to talk with and extremely knowledgeable.
