Excellent student-to-teacher ratios and the Waldorf-style of teaching allows the student to flourish by also using music and art and allowing the child to enjoy going to school.

  A Waldorf education is certainly not for everyone. But if you wish to offer your child something far greater than standardized testing and a standardized education, your options are somewhat limited. To be frank, I had only read about Rudolf Steiner in relation to his architecture when I was in graduate school. It wasn’t until the birth of my daughter that my wife began researching educational models and came across Waldorf because of Neal Donald Walsch’s reference to it in his book “Conversations with God.” We purchased books on Waldorf and the more we read the more we became convinced that this was the educational model that best suited what we valued most in our lives.
  
  My daughter is now in her second year at the Sunrise and awakes each and every morning happy to go to her school. Learning at Sunrise (and within a Waldorf curriculum) is not a two-dimensional exercise, but touches upon the spiritual and honors the child as a unique and loving soul. This may sound “New Age’ to some, but as an educator I am saddened and frustrated at the current state of education. Children are no longer given the freedom to learn through play, and their imagination and creativity are stifled through senseless testing and homework assignments, and mind numbing textbooks.
  
  Sunrise School of Miami is a community. We have made close friendships with the other parents in part because we all share the same ideas and concerns about education. We all want a safe and loving environment for our children. We also greatly value the spiritual, emotional, creative development of our children because these are essential building blocks of any learning, and of intellectual growth.
  
  Sunrise School of Miami is also a very special place because of its teachers. These are individuals who are truly committed to their craft and go well beyond what is offered in many standard classrooms today. This is certainly not to say that one will not find committed teachers in other schools, but the educational system as it is today does not afford teachers to do their vocation. My daughter’s teachers connect with her in a very profound manner. They understand her.
  
  In as much as Sunrise School of Miami has been an enriching experience for my daughter, my wife and I have also benefited greatly from the school, its teachers, and parents. I have become increasingly interested in the teachings of Steiner as they relate to education, architecture, farming, philosophy, and spirituality. There is no Waldorf 'religion' though Steiner's profound thoughts may seem esoteric to some, especially those with a rigid mind.
  
  I strongly encourage others to explore Waldorf and the Sunrise School of Miami. Learning should be a beautiful journey,
  and schools like Sunrise make every effort to instill the love of learning in every child.
