We took our beloved pet to "The Pet Emergency Room". Our girl was in critical condition and the staff, nurses and Dr. were very detailed in explaining all of our options. Unfortunately our girl didn't make, but they were bery caring and compassionate throughout the whole process.
The Pet Emergency Room helped us during an unfortunate situation with our five-year-old rescue cat, Benjamin. He apparently had a clot reach his heart, immobilizing his back legs. This all happened at 1:30 in the morning. The staff and veterinarian were so kind and even though we had to put our dear Benjamin to sleep, the Pet Emergency Room folks were there for us. My husband and I were able to hold our dear cat and they alleviated his considerable pain while we said our goodbyes. It was heart-wrenching, but at least the vet and vet tech were as empathic as they could possibly be.
The day after Thanksgiving, my 10 year old lab dislocated his hip. My guy is a rescue and already had elbow dysplasia. I was almost sure I was going to need to put him to sleep and was devastated. A local Miami vet recommended The Pet Emergency Room and I figured it was worth a shot. I got extremely lucky and Dr. Daubs was able to provide a consult the following morning. After a very frank talk with Dr. Daubs about what recovery would look like (weight loss, PT and a big commitment from me) and the possibility that the surgery wouldn't work given his other health issues, I decided to move forward with the FHO surgery. It wasn't cheap and recovery has been expensive and time consuming. However, I can say that I listened to everything Dr. Daubs recommended and my sweet boy is almost as good as new!
Pros: Honest talk (no sales pitch), excellent care, extremely kind support staff, 24 hour availability
Cons: You will spend a lot of time in your car outside waiting.
Personally, I loved Dr. Daubs and was thankful that he was a straight shooter and gave me the data I needed to make an informed decision. I like science, facts and hard truths so this was a great fit for me. I would encourage anyone reading this to remember that having the warm and fuzzy support staff is wonderful but having a surgeon who is a bit more direct and technically focused is what you need to get the best outcome for your "fur baby".
