While attending, I found it to be an "eh" school. Many of the teachers were hard on you, and it isn't the nicest architectural-wise (during my time here a student fell off the second floor due to weak railings). Despite small incidents, I thought it was alright. However, when I left, I realized how well it prepared me for high school. It is a very tough school, but it's worth it. The broadcast program is amazing too! And they have some extremely good teachers (aka Mrs. Marin, Mr. Paolino, Mrs. Padilla, etc) that make up for the not-so-good teachers. But, if your student isn't in a magnet, it is not good at all. So I suggest you go only for a magnet!
The broadcast program is amazing I was class of 2016 and the instructors taught me so many things.
Great school, my son is in the band magnet program and Mr. Williams is an excellent Band director, he has learned so much from him. All the teachers are awesome and available when you need them. Go Wildcats!!!
I have 2 kids @ SMMS, each @ a different magnet and I can attest to the amazing commitment of both the magnet teachers & academic teachers. The magnet teachers are obviously super dedicated, they want their strands to be the best & often they are, which is very exciting. 90% of the academic teachers my children have had have also been excellent. Many offer before and/or after school help @ no charge. The school has a great parental environment & school climate in general. There are tons of activities and even mini-seminar like workshops for the kids on life skills. It’s not a perfect school, not that one might exist, but I’m glad my kids are there.
